Hi, I’m Dr. Mbithe

A People Management Expert, an ICF accredited coach, Board Member, a four-time published author, and Member of the Harvard Business Review Advisory Council dedicated to helping you succeed in your life and career.

Humble Beginnings, Lifelong Lessons

It might surprise you to learn that I grew up on a farm, among a family of twenty no less. As you can probably imagine, the days were long and incredibly busy. Farm life is entirely dictated by seasons. You have to harvest when it’s time, because if you don’t, the crop goes bad. We all had a part to play, so even when we were exhausted, even when the list of tasks felt so long we couldn’t imagine ever finishing, we always made it because we supported each other. My parents modelled faith and trust in me, giving me a sense of significance and teaching me to reach my highest potential because, “the sky was the limit”.

A Passion for People

Learning how to accommodate others in our 20-person household, the teamwork at the farm and my parent’s unwavering belief in me all taught me early on that people can accomplish anything with support and trust. This is where my passion for people took root, driving me to do everything to become a people management expert and attain the tools to help people achieve their full potential. In the years to follow, I pursued my specialization to the highest level, attaining a PHD in Strategic Human Resource Development alongside multiple coaching certifications.

A Decorated Career Putting People at The Centre

Now I have over 20 years of a decorated career under my belt supporting CEOs and teams, where my passion for growing people has been my true north. Until February 2020, I was the Head of Learning and Development at Kenya Airways and CEO of Kenya Airways’ Pride Centre – the airline’s internationally accredited premier training institute.

During my 11-year tenure, the centre received numerous regional and international awards and training approvals from global air transport regulators including the International Air Transport Association (IATA). As a strategy and training consultant, I have partnered with regional and global private sectors, multilateral and non-profit organizations including: the World Bank Group, Goldman Sachs Investment Bank, Johnson & Johnson’s Management Development Institute (MDI) and the Africa Medical Research Foundation (AMREF). My passion for shaping the next generation of leaders has led me to teaching, in the capacity of Assistant Professor of Management at the United States International University (USIU-Africa) School of Business.

Kaskazini Coaching: A Culmination of Purpose

Kaskazini Coaching is, in many ways, the culmination of my lifelong passion for growing people and my life experiences have only supported my ambition to make a difference in people’s lives. Being deeply committed to family, I chose to stay at home when my children were young, only getting back to work when they were autonomous. In every season, you need different tools and support to successfully navigate changes. What I needed as a stay-at-home mum was different from what I needed when I returned to work. As a working mum, I needed integrated support that took into account my life as a mother and as a professional.

I believe you must bring your whole self to the table if you want to thrive in today’s world.

The core promise of Kaskazini Coaching is to provide you with the tools to navigate the season you’re in. We believe in nurturing the full spectrum of your life because you shouldn’t have to leave any part of yourself behind in order to progress in your goals.
